| General Overview | Some people describe him as distant and grumpy, but to those who learn to know him, he is a loyal yet stubborn friend. Although he sometimes tends to become a bit fatherly towards person close to him, trying to aid them the best he can with wise abeit harsh words. And since he doesn't speak that much, its best to heed his advice. He simply refuses to walk away from Any form of confrontation. | Personal History | Charles childhood was rather normal. Charles was already facinated by engineering at a young age, trinketing with all kinds of machines. He could be occupied for hours with a simple mechanic and some basic tools, trying to figure out how the thing worked, could be taken apart, and reasembled. His family apreciated his knack for machines and he functioned like a handy man for all kinds of small repairs. Starfleet academy was a rather dull time for Charles. The officer course wasn't realy in his field of intrest, but it was needed to get a job on a spaceship, a childhood dream. For charles, a spaceship was the ultimate machine, and he wouldn't stop until he had the chance to find out how one worked. That oppertunity came with the specialised training for engineering and operations. In wich he got near perfect marks and got majors and minors for in short time. His first assignment was in a rundown ship the USS York. It wasn't the best or most beautifull ship, but it was a good ship. Here his habit of going past the regular repairing routines, instead of getting corrected, was encouraged. And he got quite good at fixing equipment. His repairs weren't durable, but they worked. The story of how he saved the ship with a metal lighter, a pack of chewing gum and a piece of string is still being told by his old crewmates. Eventualy the USS York was decomissioned, and charles was reassigned to the USS Malinche as assistand chief of operations. But the traveling life of the generic spaceship was starting to take its toll on the now 38 years old charles. He married his starfleet accedemy sweetheart, angelina, and took was transfered to a far simpeler and more quiet job on deep space nine as chief of operations. For six years, charles was happy. Even tough Angelina couldent get children due to a dangerous genetical disease. He took care of the spacestation like it was his childe. But even good things end, and this ended for the worst. The long lingering genetic disease of angelina took hold and there was nothing modern medical science could do about it. Far stretching and complicated alterations in her DNA were the result of her affliction and she died. Charles who was devestated because of this left Deep Space 5 and starfleet all together. He traveled the know worlds to forget about the fate of his loved one. He even spent a few years in a monestary on the edge of know space. Three years later he returend a new man. He still greeved for his lost wife, but it was bearable now. He reasigned with starfleet and took a refresher course. He was transfered to USS valkyrie in the domion wars, as chief of engineering. In the many hostile encounters charles was forced even more to improvise even more on his already jury rigged repair methodes. He found out that keeping a ship in one piece was more important then upholding starfleet regulations. This got him in some trouble with the captain who believed more in rules then in people. As such he was transfered to the small ship the USS rapier. The uss rapier was fun for a while but the combined job of chief engineer and chief operations was a little bit to much for charles who was nearing his retirement. |
